Final Research Study Report
This study, conducted by the NADD Research Team, examines the policies, training approaches, collaborative partnerships, resource access, and service systems designed to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health concerns. The research utilizes a mixed-methods design incorporating surveys, virtual interviews, and a review of national trends and promising practices. A key component of the study focuses on the experiences of individuals and families during crisis interventions. The research aims to identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities within existing support systems, policies, and treatment approaches for individuals with IDD and mental health needs. The study also analyzes policies and systems in Florida and other states regarding the response to individuals with dual diagnoses receiving specialized support services. A literature review examines existing research on mental illness in persons with IDD, including prevalence data, best practices, quality of support systems, and availability of training.
