Analyzing experiences and systems of care
This research report, a collaboration between the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed and the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities, examines the experiences and systems of care within Oregon's mental and behavioral health services for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and co-occurring mental health conditions (dual diagnoses). The study involved subject-matter experts, researchers, and industry professionals, incorporating diverse perspectives from the I/DD community. The report highlights the need for person-centered care tailored to individual needs, increased resources and capacity building for mental/behavioral health care, specialized training for professionals, data-driven improvements, and community-centered innovations. The ultimate goal is to create a more equitable, efficient, and supportive care environment where individuals with I/DD and co-occurring mental health conditions can thrive.
