Evidence-Based Practices and Policy Recommendations
This research report, stemming from the ASK Research Project, focuses on enhancing health outcomes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The study emphasizes the importance of family-centered care and identifies key challenges faced by families, including limited access to information and resources, difficulty navigating complex service systems, and insufficient support during transitions. The report offers policy recommendations to address these challenges, such as improving service coordination, increasing access to respite care, and providing families with accessible information on long-term care planning. The project was funded by the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council and conducted in collaboration with the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed. The research involved interviews and listening sessions with stakeholders, including families, service providers, and experts, to gather diverse perspectives on the challenges and potential solutions. The findings highlight the need for ongoing efforts to improve the accessibility and quality of IDD support services and emphasize the importance of family involvement in care planning and decision-making.
